Talking about health services, there are no good health hospitals in the city where good health services are available. According to the Indian Constitution, every Indian has the right to choose the health system, but there is neither complete Ayurvedic nor Naturopathy services available in the city. Not only this, facilities are not available in the city even in case of emergency. In the name of health services, there is a health center in the city which is outside the city and even there the necessary services and doctors are not available and there are no transport services available to reach there.
Talking about education, the city is in a very bad condition in the field of education also. According to the population of the city, the provision of education here is very less, due to which small children and youth have to go to other cities to get education. The situation of which is that every day mainly 12 buses of major schools come to the city to pick up the children and the capacity of one bus is 60 in which 70 children are often seated. Apart from these which are more than 800, there are many smaller schools also. The point of saying is that if these children get good education in the city itself then why should they go to other cities for education. And this will also save traffic and time. There is not a single government college in the city where professional courses are conducted. And the entire district is not a professional university, medical, educational and other main courses are conducted here. For the purpose of education, there is a government school whose land is not in the city but in a village.
The issue of parking in the city is a very old one which has not been resolved with time due to which today it has become a mess and a source of trouble for many citizens. Due to lack of parking, it becomes difficult for people to use the roadside for parking and sometimes the same parking extends to the middle of the road. Children's buses sometimes stand on the roads for hours. At the same time, there is no path left for pedestrians, most of the routes meant for pedestrians have parking and stalls due to which even the pedestrian path is blocked.
Unemployment is not such a big problem that it cannot be solved. Many people from the city are forced to go to other cities for employment. The reason is the lack of proper employment policies and negative attitude of the administration towards opportunity. Many such works can be started in the city which can generate employment and people can also get benefit from those services. Like parking, water treatment plant, cowdung brick plant, fertilizer plant, and farming etc. But neither the government nor the administration pay any attention to it nor do they have a positive attitude towards such projects.
The condition of sewage and drains is very bad. The situation is such that even after a little rain, the roads get filled with water. The drains remain filled anyway. Even after getting cleaning done repeatedly, proper services are not provided. It is not the fault of the employees providing cleaning services, they not only fulfill their responsibilities but in reality the fault lies with the administration who create problems due to their negligence. There is no blue print prepared for the works done in the city, nor is any action taken against the contractors who take money for the works, nor the engineers who fail to do so. Due to which at some places the road is high and at other places it is low and similar is the condition of the drain system which is not able to manage the water properly and as a result problems arise.
There is a big problem of public transport in the city, the reason for which is also the administration. The city has repeatedly suffered the consequences due to wrong policies, an example of which was the closure of the city hospital and the health center being moved to Leela Kalan road where there is no transportation facility. Not only this, the city has been completely dependent on Batala city because mainly the only transport available is to go to Batala, out of which everyone knows how many government buses there are. What's more, after 8 o'clock the city becomes cut off from the surrounding world and if a bus does not come in the morning, there is no bus service for 2 hours. Whereas the city can be connected to Jalandhar, Chandigarh, Gurdaspur, Delhi and this will increase employment opportunities and also the fame and facilities of the city. But instead of developing it, any government has only made it a medium for political gains.
Public toilet is a big problem of the city which is not being solved at all. Actually, there are two public toilets, one at the vegetable market and one at the bus stand, out of which only the bus stand owner is working to some extent. But it is not available where it is most needed. Like on College Road, Butter Road, Thikriwal Road and Main Bazaar where there are many schools, shops, businesses and medical shops etc. but toilets are not available for students, shopkeepers and customers in case of any problem or need.
Same is the situation with parks and playgrounds also. If we look at the city, there is a park for the citizens near the committee house, the condition of which is not very good and the second park near Ahmadiya Colony, the condition of cleanliness here is very bad and if we talk about sports, there is not even a single playground available. In a way that can involve children in sports. There is a track which is private property of a college, it is closed whenever it wants and sometimes it is opened. But there is no sports stadium or sports club available here which has facilities to play various sports.
Talking about drugs, addiction is increasing day by day, behind which the administration has proved to be the biggest failure. Because today drugs are sold everywhere in the form of alcohol, cool lip, tobacco, cigarettes etc. Some sell openly and some secretly. But if no restrictions are observed, then there are many drug shops on the roads of schools, not only this, the business of synthetic drugs is also increasing, most of whose victims are youth. In which some pharmacies are also attached and there are also people standing on some street corners. It is very important to control them but traffic police is not available, how will it be possible to catch such people.
Talking about roads, roads are found broken at many places, the reasons being weak and poor material, road work without planning, lack of proper level of roads, wrong driving by people and overloaded traffic. Road accidents have happened many times, sometimes in the dark, sometimes due to fog, sometimes due to traffic, the potholes are not visible and an accident occurs. Rajdhani Transport had also received a case in which a person had died in a similar road accident. Therefore, the roads should be in good condition on which guidelines have been issued by the Central Government and the Supreme Court but have not been implemented yet.
If we talk about life safety, there are so many complaints of theft due to lack of proper services. Girls are often teased while returning from college. Girls and boys can be seen immorally in the streets and intersections. No traffic police, no maintenance of roads, no CCTV system to stop theft.
